Over 200 primary school children and their families enjoyed a day of discovery at University Park Campus on Saturday 14th June. The Family Discovery Day, organised by the University's Widening Participation Team, aimed to inspire young learners - particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds - by giving them a taste of university life through fun, interactive activities.

Nottingham Confucius Institute (NCI) were among various departments participating in the day.  NCI offered a special craft activity where children created miniature cardboard dragon boats using pre-cut materials. This engaging workshop celebrated the recent Dragon Boat Festival, introducing participants to Chinese traditions in a creative way.

Over 70 children and their families stopped by NCI's activity zone, enthusiastically assembling their colourful boats while learning about the festival's cultural significance. "The children loved making their own dragon boats and discovering this part of Chinese culture," commented Ruige Gao, one of the NCI teachers leading the activity. "It was wonderful to see their excitement as they worked on their creations."

The event successfully combined learning with hands-on fun, inspiring and encouraging the young attendees to be ambitious and confident about their future in education. NCI were very proud to be part of this.
